FINANCIAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR PROFESSIONAL PILOT TRAINING AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI CLERMONT
The Aviation Technology Professional Pilot Training Program at the University of Cincinnati Clermont College is a unique program that has associated fees in addition to tuition. We have tried to outline all associated costs, but in this technical training environment, additional unforeseen costs could arise.
Student Pilot & Medical Certificate (Approx. Cost = $80)
Students enrolling in the Aviation Program must obtain a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Student Pilot Certificate and Third Class Medical Certificate (First Class Recommended) prior to beginning flight training. Both certificates will cost approximately $70 together and can be obtained from any FAA designated Aviation Medical Examiner (AME). Dr. B.L. Examination Fees (Approx. Cost = $1,420)
Four FAA knowledge tests (written examinations) are required for the certificates and rating you will receive while enrolled in the program. Written examinations can be taken at the Clermont County/Sporty’s Airport at a cost of $80 each. There are also four practical examinations (flight tests) administered by an FAA Designated Examiner at an approximate cost of $275 each.
Special Equipment and Texts (Approx. Cost = $500)
Flying requires some specialized equipment. The pilot supplies needed (headset, aviation calculator, fuel sampler, etc.) will be primarily one-time purchases at an approximate cost of $500. The average cost of the aviation textbooks and materials is $60 per quarter. We recommend that you do not buy your aviation textbooks/equipment until after the first day of class. The instructor will discuss important information regarding the selection of texts/equipment.
Flight Fees (Approx. Cost = $4,690 per quarter)
Flight fees cover the cost of airplanes, the aircraft simulator, and the individual flight instructor’s rate for the seven quarters of the program. The flight fees must be paid prior to beginning flight training each quarter. The quarterly fee is $4,690 which is subject to change and is determined by the total cost of flight training divided by the seven quarters of the program. This figure is based upon the minimum flight training requirements. Students are responsible for costs associated with additional flight training. A minimum of $500 is required to be on account in order to continue training. Unused funds are refundable to the student upon completion of the program.
At the successful completion of training, you will receive a Commercial Pilot Certificate with Airplane Single-Engine Land and Instrument Ratings. In addition, the program offers an option of a multiengine and/or glider rating. The total cost of the Single-Engine program includes the following:
Four Seat Airplane 164 hours
Retractable Gear Airplane 19
Flight Simulator 18
Dual Flight Instruction 145
Dual Simulator Instruction 18
Ground Instruction 60
Financial Aid
Financial aid and student loans are available for all costs and fees associated with the aviation program. It takes approximately 12 weeks to obtain money through most financial aid programs.
