GED Facts You May Not Know

The GED Test is administered to over 800,000 adults each year.

Famous GED graduates include Bill Cosby, Wendy's founder Dave Thomas, Delaware's Lieutenant Governor Ruth Ann Minner, U. S. Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell, Actor Michael J. Fox, Former Governor of New Jersey Jim Florio, Singer Vicki Carr, Country Singers Waylon Jennings and John Michael Montgomery, Olympic Gold Medalist Mary Lou Retton, and Editor of "PARADE" Magazine Walter Anderson.

One out of every 7 people who receive high school diplomas each year earns it by passing the GED Test.

68% of GED test takers plan to enter college, university or trade, technical or business school during the next year.

Average age of GED test takers is 24.4 years.

More than 95% of employers nationwide employ GED graduates on the same basis as high school graduates in terms of hiring, salary and opportunity for advancement.

1 in 20 first year college students each year is a GED graduate.

90% of colleges and universities recognize the GED.

Passing the GED Test puts you in the upper 25th percentile in terms of class rank and lets colleges know that you have the skills and knowledge equivalent to applicants from traditional high schools.

You may still be required to take additional tests, like the ACT or SAT, to qualify for college admittance.  Open admission colleges or universities, such as UC - Clermont College, Southern State Community College, Cincinnati State, UC - Raymond Walters College and Northern Kentucky University accept GED recipients as readily as traditional high school graduates.
